If I were a young man and was buying a watch to wear every day for the next 25 years, it would be this one. At the end of the 25 years, it will have tripled in value. The original Radiomir was produced by Panerai in 1938 for the Royal Italian Navy. In 1998, they produced an authentic recreation of the 1938, but limited the production to 60 pieces. The version you're looking at here was limited to a production of 800. They were sold quickly and have been discontinued. (There are no more.) Few people know the level of detail in this watch. The base movement was a very rare Jaeger LeCoultre (now discontinued). That movement was extensively reworked by Panerai and is wired into the case. Yes, you did just read that. It is wired at all four corners to create a cushion (shock resistant method). Be very careful of fakes, especially on auctions. You can find yourself with a new one that looks real, even through the back, but it isn't real. This watch has triple boxes: the factory original cardboard box (numbered), outer box and a beautiful display case. It has the registration form and all three books, and is complete with verified serial numbers. It comes with its original authenticity paper as well as the original plastic cover for storage. This watch is from a private collection and I should not sell it. It can not be replaced at this price, or maybe never since it's such a limited production. It is a huge watch at 42mm. The movement is the Panerai OPXIII. It has date, hours, minutes and an inner rotating bezel for a second time zone. The leather strap, which is hand sewn and dyed with a steel Panerai mark clasp is a deployment band. The leather shows minor wear and has many, many years of life left. I have to add about the movement that it is a 35 jewel, 28,800 beats and has a 37 hour reserve. The screws inside are burnished blue. The watch has screw down crowns and is waterproof to 100M. The case is a work of art and mint. Because of the shape of the case, the workmanship has to be perfect. Making sure the removable wire loop strap attachment and the two crowns are cut expertly. The non glare sapphire front crystal and sapphire viewing back just continue to compliment this masterpiece. I love this watch. It will only go up in value. No doubt about its authenticity. No questions about documentation. Discontinued with one of the best movements ever made. Dust cloth, boxes, books...complete in every detail. Another one I should hold and enjoy for myself! |
