Rolex Thunderbird. The worst watch you will ever buy is the one that saved you money, but you passed on the one you really wanted. Go ahead, buy at an auction. It is typically where watchmakers and "newbies" sell. The watch will run, for a while. Would you think a great watch would go up with no reserve? Buyer beware. Buy only the best if you are a collector. Pay the price for the above average, pristine watch. You will never regret it. Everybody and the college kid has a Submariner. There are three Rolexes that will hold their value in my opinion: Explorers/Sea Dwellers, Thunderbirds and Daytonas. Their production numbers are so much smaller. Well, I guess the old watch man should talk about this watch. It was in a watchmaker's collection. The bezel is 18Kt gold, shows all the factory original lines with a perfect coin edge. The bezel turns smoothly. (Some confuse this watch with a Turn-O-Graph but the bezels are not the same, and Turn-O-Graphs are generally 14Kt not 18Kt.) This watch is a 1985, so it is 25 years old with a Jubilee 18Kt/SS Band which is very tight. The band numbers and the clasp numbers match and are correct for this watch. Sometimes people don't check between the lugs for serial and model numbers, but if you are going to collect, then you better be able to read those numbers clearly. This watch is near perfect. The beautiful gold dial with the quick-set 3035 movement is serviced and working perfectly. The 3035 with 27 jewels is probably one of the very best movements out there. The clasp still has the original Rolex brush mark which can not be duplicated. Just about as good as it gets. |
