I love these watches, but they are very temperamental. Nothing is more elegant than the style. Asymmetrical and domed, they are by far the most radical design of the late 1950s. It amazes me that all of them are written up as 1957. There were three movements for the watch. 1957-1960 the movement was the 500. In 1960-61, there was a 500A and in 1961-65 there was the 505. All three are problematic with the 505 being the best of the three. This watch has a newly rebuilt 500. So it is truly a 1957-59, very early watch. It has correct hands and nice champagne dial with some patina on it, but it appears to be original. Pat Pending at the bottom of the dial is perfect and attests to the correctness. The case is one of the best I've seen with crisp points and very few scratches. Nothing on it could not be polished out. Rene Rondeau, who wrote the book on the Hamilton Electrics, says this is the most popular of the electrics. You will get more questions, stares and compliments on this watch than most out there. It comes with a new Ostrich band, which I think just sets the watch off. |
