Make sure you're getting what you think you're getting. Although this watch in particular is highly collectible, there are a lot of green bezels out there on the watchmakers benches. To me, this is the watch to buy now. People are asking more than they retailed for in the beginning. Here are some rules to follow on this watch. Don't buy without papers or hang tags. Make sure you have the registration paper. The style should be R16610V30Bxxxx, and the hang tag should be 16610LV. This watch came out in 2003, 50 years from the first submariner. Clearly 16610LV is the ONLY model. (Again, it is easy to convert from standard submariner 16610, but will never carry the right model.) It's no longer in production of course. From 2003-2010, about 1 in 30 sold was the green bezel (that's a best guess). Ok, so some history and why I don't care if this watch sells. If you are a collector, then you need all 3 boxes, registration, hang tags, all links, a perfect bezel (I mean perfect, not one scratch), booklets, and a mint condition band. Basically, you need NOS watch. Also it would be nice to have the original hologram on the back. Some folks ask what LV means. It stands for "Lunette Verte," which means green bezel in French. The watch is referred to as "The Kermit." The difference between the 16610 and the 16610LV is of course the green bezel. Most people don't notice but the 12 marker button is tinted green also on the 16610LV. The movement is a 31 jewel movement made by Rolex for the new submariners. It is a superb movement. The watch is fitted with a solid core, block cut, stainless steel band. You should have 12 links for the band. This is a D371xxx serial and was purchased on 2-3-06. The watch hasn't been worn much at all. The bezel has no flaws and the hologram is intact on the back. Comes complete with 12 links, hang tag, registration, and all 3 boxes. |
