According to the Antiquorum Database, only 4 sales of similar pieces are recorded between 2002 and 2005. This watch has been totally restored, February 2011. It is like new condition. The dial was restored in Germany by Jurgen Hauff. The 1030 movement was just serviced by Dalton in Los Angeles. The crown appears to be original with the cross below the Rolex symbol. The crystal is new. The case has been polished and returned to the original Rolex finish. Serial number is very low, 168,611 on the back of the case, and is second quarter 1956. The lug holes are very tight. Considering that the numbers are so clear, the lug holes, and the size of the lugs, the watch shows little wear. The Rolex 6610 is the second generation of Rolex Explorers. The Rolex Explorer gained fame and notoriety in 1953, when Edmund Hillary scaled Mt. Everest wearing a Rolex Explorer. I would put this up against any other for condition. It is ready to wear for another 55 years. Complete with 2 bands; a new nato strap and a thick sport band that really shows the watch off. Destined to continue to rise in value over time. |
